The village of Bukovice is situated at the confluence of the Pěkovský and Hlavňovský streams, 1 kilometre north of Police nad Metují.

The settlement was founded in around 1220 by the Police Benedictine monks, who built a Meierhof there, mentioned in the records as early as 1405. After its abolition, the settlers were obliged to work on the farmsteads of the Police estate, which led them to join the great peasant uprising in 1680.

Bukovice formed part of the Police estate until 1848, after which it was merged with Velká Ledhuje. It became independent in 1877, was made part of Police nad Metují in 1954, and broke away and became part of Hlavňov, under the name Hvězda, in 1954. It is now an independent municipality.

By the road there is a column with the Immaculata from 1747, as well as a small belfry. A half-figure of the Madonna with the Baby Jesus is depicted in the municipal seal from the 18th century.
