The village of Vernéřovice lies 2 km from the town of Meziměstí in the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area. The first written record of the village dates back to 1351, using its former name "German Vernéřovice" or "Deutsch Wernersdorf". Legend has it that the village was founded by the locator Werner (locator - a person who in the Middle Ages who looked around for places to settle, and so was in charge of founding villages or towns). The Baroque parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel stands on a hill in the middle of the village. It was designed by Christoph Dientzenhofer. Pilgrims used to flock to the Pilgrimage Church of Mary, Help of Christians, built close to the springs along the Vernéřovice stream on the mountain ridge. There is also a commemorative tree in the village, the Vernéřovice Linden.
