The village of Česká Metuje lies some 5 kilometres northwest of Police nad Metují. The dominant landmark in the surrounding area is the table mountain of Ostaš. The village lies along the Metuje River, which flows north-south through the area in a deep channel, joined on the right-hand side by the tributary of the Vlásenka stream. The first preserved written record of the village dates back to 1406, when Metuje, then a hamlet, is mentioned as part of the Police estate. In 1946, the former German Mettau and Vlásenka became part of the village, followed by Skalka in 1960.
