Střmen Castle in Teplice Rocks

Střmen Castle was built on several rock blocks in the middle of a deep border forest. A significant part of the castle was carved out of the rock massif, and even the castle tower was formed from a shaped and hewn rock formation with numerous notches for inserting beams, which supported wooden galleries and walkways. On a smaller rock in front of the tower, there was probably a fortified log cabin connected to the tower by a wooden bridge.

The first written mention of the castle appears in the Majestas Carolina (1350), where it is listed as a royal castle that the ruler could pledge under certain conditions. Střmen Castle received its name from its coat of arms, which depicted a stirrup. After 1363, the castle was purchased by the lords of Dubá and Náchod, who held it until 1436. Its further fate is unknown, but it is generally assumed that, like Skály and Adršpach, it came into the hands of the Hussites and was destroyed either during the Hussite Wars or later in 1447 by the Silesians.

Today, the castle is only remembered by carved rock walls, beam notches, and remnants of stairs. On the highest rock, where the castle tower once stood, there is now an adapted viewing platform offering beautiful views of the surrounding rocks and forested ravines.
