Route description

The route starts at the Teplice nad Metují signpost by the square, below the railway viaduct (see ROUTE 3 for information). From the signpost, follow the red trail markers past the Information Centre towards the Vernéřovice spring. Around 300 m from the starting point, turn right.

You then pass through the district of Horní Teplice, where you join a panel road and head upwards. After 1.5 km or so, leave the panel road and take the dirt trail to the U Nového dvoru signpost. From there, continue uphill to the birch grove, still following the red trail markers.

From the top of the hill, ride down the hill to a trail through the forest, which leads to the Vernéřovice spring with the former chapel from 1878, a former pilgrimage site. From the Vernéřovice spring signpost, follow the yellow trail towards Buková hora. The sandy, sometimes slightly rocky path runs some 1.5 km through the forest to the crossroads near the hay barn, then turn left and take the steep hill up to Buková hora (693 m above sea level).

When you arrive at the Buková hora signpost, on the left side of the road you’ll see an information board that gives a description of the events that took place here at the end of World War II, during the expulsion of the Sudeten Germans. At the edge of the forest there is a sandstone memorial commemorating the victims of this event - the Cross of Reconciliation.

From the Buková hora signpost, take the yellow hiking trail to Zdoňov. The trail leads mostly through the forest and follows the red biking route. After riding 3.5 km turn right, still following the yellow hiking markers, and head down to the cottage settlement in Zdoňov (refreshments available), near the border crossing to Poland.

In the village of Zdoňov it is worth checking out the originally Gothic church of the Holy Trinity from the 14th century, later rebuilt in the Renaissance style. By the church there is a sign giving more information about it. When you’re ready, head down the road to the signpost and take a left.

Keeping following the yellow hiking trail, which takes you almost all the way through Zdoňov. After almost 4 km, by the renovated green timbered cottage, turn right onto the path running between the meadows. It leads through pasture land and then turns left by a massive linden tree. You then have a steep ride up to the bottom of the Křížový vrch nature reserve, to the Pod Křížovým vrchem signpost.

Here you can turn off and walk(!) along the Stations of the Cross path to the top of Křížový vrch, which offers beautiful views of Adršpach Rocks, the mountains of Vraní hory and, when visibility is good, the Krkonoše Mountains (you need to come back the same way). The Stations of the Cross path consists of cast-iron reliefs dating from the 17th century, set into the rocks.

From the Pod Křížovým vrchem signpost, ride down to the large car park at the entrance to Adršpach Rocks (refreshments available), to the Adršpach signpost. There, you can take a tour of the rocks if you want to. The paid sightseeing tour through the rock town starts from the Lesní zátiší hotel and is some 3.5 km long.

The Adršpach rock town mainly consists of a system of isolated rock towers and pillars. The Adršpach-Teplice rocks are the largest complete rock city in the Czech Republic and are also famous throughout Europe. From the Adršpach signpost, continue along the red trail to Teplice nad Metují. Another option: take Route 7 to Teplice n. M.
